Why I Created This Programme

​

It only dawned on me recently,

that I totally took it for granted as a singer, when I express so much emotions through my singing...

 

The realisation that not everyone gets to experience what I experience, emotionally AND vocally through singing,....

pains me...

 

Because most people say things like:

 

I can't sing

I don't sing well

I can't express myself through singing 

My family / friends say I should not sing 

​

It is such a shame

 

That people block themselves from what should be natural for human beings...

 

The release of emotions through our own voice

 

And singing is such a fun and natural way to release our human emotions 

 

Sometimes our vocal and emotional blockages are also due to how society has moulded us into vocal obedience:

 

 When we:

- feel that we should not speak up though we feel it in our guts that that others are wrong 

 

- when we are shamed, or guilt-tripped into keeping peace by... staying quiet

 

- when we were shamed into invisibility, because visibility and authenticity means being laughed at, or feel 'small'.

Over time, our voice is trained to become smaller... and powerless ....

and we lost the confidence of expressing ourselves through our voice, and right of opinion. 

 

 

For some, it can be the opposite. 

 

Where we find strength in expressing ourselves vocally, it is just a shell to block others from accessing us emotionally. 

 

So much so that we could not even access or acknowledge our own emotions anymore.

 

Because if we can't manage our emotions, it feels safer to build a wall around us and just hover on the outside. 

 

So while we feel intelligent and strong to the outside world, we subconsciously know that our inner world is a marsh that we do not want people to gain access to. 

 

So when we sing, we do not want people to hear too much of our emotions. 

 

Or, we only let people hear one type of emotions, because that feels safe, and still makes us look intelligent and put-together. 

 

Any other emotions that showcases silliness and vulnerability are locked up, and will never be shown to the world.
And of course not in the more intimate act of vocal expression - singing. 

 

So if we sing, we only sing a particular type of songs.

For eg, the typical sad love songs.

 

Maybe one day... we want to start singing other kinds of songs and explore other emotions...

 

But we have lost the key for a very long time...

 

We want to find it back, because

we realise that finding and experiencing safety in the full spectrum of human emotions is what makes us human....

 

 It may also hold the KEY to unlock more intimate relationships, by first finding authenticity and safety with ourselves
(and then with others)

 

This programme aims to create growth towards the fact that

- there IS safety in vocal expressions.

- there are rewards unbeknownst to us, with authentic vocal expressions and emotions

​

It is permissible and ok:

- for a 60-year-old to sing of being madly in love.

(And it doesn't not even matter if it's joy derived from personal alignment, or imagined joy. - it is the experiencing of human emotions and expression)

 

- to pour grief and anger through angry ballads or rock songs through those intense melody & lyrics...

 

- to amplify the subtle feelings of human emotions when we sing a sultry jazz song 

 

- to exaggerate emotions 10 folds, when we take on a musical theatre song that takes us through the rawness of human anguish emotions
